# 4: Using HTTPS requests with ekey fingerprint scanners daily

Once an HTTP request has been set up, it will be executed each time there is a positive match with the assigned finger. Please note that your third-party system or device has to be accessible for the HTTP request to work.

The idea is to “smarten up” your fingerprint scanner, so that it can be used as your smart home’s start button. The fingerprint scanner works like a trigger, so it’s one-way communication only. ekey does not use or evaluate responses.
